Snaefellsness peninsula, Iceland Sept. 5-6, 2023
Off we go. First stop is the Snaefellsness peninsula. A detour off of the ring road. Photos are of scenery along the way, Bjarnafoss is the single waterfall, a double waterfall as we left town, the aptly named black church. The weather turned nasty just as we were arriving in Grundarjyordur…gale force winds and rain. And a major complication occurred as well that I am still dealing with days later. When we arrived at our airbnb for two nights someone else was already there. They said they had booked the house directly with the owners for two nights back back in February. We went through airbnb but had reserved it only a week or so ago, as where we were going to stay had canceled our reservation at the last minute. We couldn’t get a hold of the owners, managed to get a hold of airbnb, although of minimal help, and we were left to try and find lodging for the night. We got the last room in the only hotel in town..the guesthouse was fully booked. After much back and forth with airbnb, we have been refunded for our two night stay but airbnb initially said they would pay for at least one of our two nights substitute lodging. Still battling over that. Travel is not for the faint of heart. With all that said, we had a wonderful dinner and loved the beautiful scenery on the Snaefellsness peninsula!
