Black sand beach, Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss Iceland Sept. 18, 2023

The black sand beach was a one minute walk from our Airbnb cottage, The number of photos I’m sharing is indicative of the time we spent here.  We walked the beach end to end…Donna took an untold number of videos of the dramatic waves…spent closer to two hours here.  We are both total suckers for a dramatic ocean location and this is definitely dramatic.  The hordes were all concentrated within about 100 feet of the “cave” and the rest of the beach was all ours.  So in spite of it being on the must see tourist circuit, we were all by our lonesome for most of our time there.  Speaking of all by our lonesome, our airbnb for our last night before our return to Reykjavik tomorrow and the start of the Hurtigruten cruise on the 19th is truly out in the middle of nowhere.  Not one car has gone by since we arrived at 4 pm (it’s 8:12 pm) now.  A really wonderful accomodation too.     One more glacier shot, and then it’s several of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss.  Raining pretty steadily by the end of our time at Seljalandsfoss, but we were going to get pretty wet at that one anyway (and we did) because you can walk behind the waterfall, and especially on one side with the wind you were going to get wet no matter what.  Liked them both, Seljalandsfoss is the more unusual one and had way less people (probably because of the weather), Skogafoss was hopping, and had I included the base of the falls in my photo share you would have seen the 100 plus people milling about and grabbing their photos.  Strategic photo taking and editing makes it seem like we were the only ones there.  Although as I’ve said before, once we were away from the “must see” sights and off of the ring road, and away from Reykjavik, we really did have Iceland to ourselves.   Three more from our stay here out in the countryside.  The man walking the horse with the young child were the only two people we saw in our time here.  Then sunrise this morning.  And finally a photo of a photo hanging in the house.  That’s our airbnb with the northern lights….and yes we did see the northern lights one last time last night, although not as dramatic as this shot!  This place was a great last stay (not counting tonight in Reykjavik…our accomodations in Reykjavik are ok, but nothing to write home about…but reasonably priced).  New, serene and peaceful, best bathroom of the trip with a fabulous shower and heated floors, farm fresh eggs provided, etc.
