Lerwick, Shetland Islands Sept. 24, 2023

Arrived in the Shetland Islands, in Lerwick, the largest city and capital.  Only about 23,000 people live in the Shetland Islands on 16 different islands.  We went on another hike up Stanley Hill, which although not real long ended up being a bit of an adventure as we were off trail in fairly boggy ground for quite a bit of the hike and then the guides couldn’t find the trail down and we ended up getting back through someone’s backyard.  Finding the ship (we peeled off so we could get back to the ship to do the last guided tour o town( was a bit challenging as well.  It all worked out though as later that afternoon we did do the guided tour of Lerwick with Kaye, a local tour guide who was really good.  We had dinner at a table with Trish and Eileen, two librarians from Cleveland and Boston and good liberal Democrats.  There are not a lot of other American’s on board, mostly Danes, Norwegians, Germans and Brits, but English is the language of the ship so very easy for us single lingual Americans.
