Porto, Portugal April 15, 2019
Leaving our quick stop in Obidos, we continue heading north to Porto, our last stop in Portugal. Porto is Portugal's second largest city and is mainly known today for it's colorful tumble down the hill to the river old historic district and it's foodie culture. Our apartment is very nice and about a 15 minute walk to the river, so easy to get in and out of town but close enough to see the sights. We ate at our airbnb's cousin's (she checked us in - Marte) favorite pizza place (Muti) and a recommended (both by Marte and websites) nice restaurant (Antones) that is also listed on several websites but that is actually very affordable. Not enough time to eat the signature sandwich, the Francesinha, but oh well, it's multi meat filled cheesy beer sauce thing that Donna would never get anyway (I'd eat it of course). We walk the river, and cross the bridge for fantastic views back at the city and stroll. Porto has a scenic (see photos) historic old town, but otherwise is pretty run down with a lot of abandoned buildings outside the historic touristed core. We will always remember the day we were here as it the day that tragically the Notre Dame cathedral burned down in Paris.
All your pictures are amazing. I planned a 5 days trip to Portugal in the month of August. I am so excited to attend the meo festival. However, now I am planning to expand the trip, as I can’t resist exploring the beauty of Porto.
