Ait Benhaddou, Morocco March 31, 2019

Leaving the M'Goun Valley we took off on the fabled road of 1,000 kasbahs.  We stopped at the Skoura Oasis where we (actually only 3 of us - had to cross a river to the casbah - due to flooding) visited the Kasbah Ameridahl, with its extravagant decorations and mud brick fortifications.  Then on to Ait Benhaddou,  Perched on a hilltop and almost unchanged since the 11th century, Air Bennhaddou is one of Morocco's most iconic sites.  Its grand kasbah is one of the most beautiful in Morocco and the fortified village is a fine example of clay architecture.  Many films have been shot here including Lawrence of Arabia, Game of thrones and Gladiator.  Afterwards we toured a rug making shop, where the seller was 72 and very knowledgeable about old rock and roll, had met Brad Pitt (nice guy) and Tom Cruise (not so nice) and was a hippy in USA for a year in 1969, and was trained in quantum physics.  When he grew up, the US was a dream and held in high esteem by Morocco and the Arab world...now not so much.
