Merzouga, Morocco; Sahara Camp March 28, 2019

We leave Midelt and head to Merzouga, and our Sahara camp, stopping on the way at a place where they excavate for ancient sea fossils (Trilobites, etc.).  The Sahara was mostly another highlight (certainly for the group), but sadly less so for Donna as she came down fairly violently ill, vomiting several times in the Sahara - she did manage to do the sunset camel ride - but threw up all of her lunch in the sand after she got off the camel half way through the ride..she skipped our dinner that night.  They used to set up camp farther out in the desert, but one of our camel guides said there had been a bit of trouble being only 12 miles from the Algerian border, so now the tents are set up right next to the hotel.  So we had a mini Lawrence of Arabia moment, but not the full on as we had hoped for (originally we were supposed to ride back at sunrise, and camp out a few miles into the desert - but considering poor Donna's state of affairs, it was for the better anyway. )  (From the Intrepid description) - With a backdrop of orange-colored Erg Chebbi sand dunes, the charming Saharan village of Merzouga feels wonderfully isolated, like the modern world has left it behind.  The Erg Chebbi dunes are the most stunning in the country and an essential part of any visit to Morocco.  An erg is a vast sea of shifting windswept sand that's formed into picturesque, undulating crests and valleys.  The Erg Chebbi is one of the world's iconic landscapes, with towering dunes up to 150 meters in height.
