Granada, Spain April 9, 2019
Leaving Cuenca, we head to Granada. Everyone keeps telling us that Seville is a favorite city in Spain for all of them, and we are not staying there, so a crazy last minute change adds a night in Seville tomorrow, which means only one night in Granada instead of 2. I had originally planned on touring the Alhambra, but didn't realize that you have to book tickets months in advance. Arriving in Granada turns out to be very challenging, as we are staying in the old part of town, with a parking garage. The owner, Carmen and her assistant Antonio did not speak English, and it was a very convoluted process to get to apartment - very narrow streets, miscommunications, ..general craziness...it's why most people don't do what we do. In the end, it was the best apartment yet; a really nice place, but alas online night here now. We made the most of our time here, walking around the old part of the city up to the Alhambra viewpoint, then back down to the most ornate church in the world, the Basilica de San ....., which was indeed amazing and very untouristed, and then a walk around the cathedral before heading back to the apartment around 2 and calling Antonio to help with the check out process - he has to help get the car with me and then we drive a very convoluted way back to the apartment where Donna is waiting with the bags. Anyway, crazy but also wonderful short time in Granada.
