Brac Island, Croatia; Postira Sept. 20-22, 2018

We checked out of our Split apartment, and after loading the car, we walked back into town where I established myself on a park bench on the promenade while Donna did some shopping.  She returned with two swimsuits, one for each of us.  We walked back up the hill to our car and drove to the ferry terminal, five minutes away, and got in line for the 2:15 ferry to the island of Brac.  Croatia has over a thousand coastal islands, and Brac is one of the largest, but is less touristed than nearby Hvar and Korcula.  Google maps directions sent us down an impossibly narrow and small street, which we narrowly escaped scraping the side of the car...luckily we were able to exit the street, and get on a larger street which took us to the town parking center, which was all of a two block walk to our apartment.  Jospeh met us and we fell in love with our little town of Postira, and our apartment which is right on the small promenade, above Joseph's handmade olive oil soap shop, with a Terazza that looks right out on the harbor.  We ate all our meals there, and twice we purchased our dinner from the restaurant that is steps away (very yummy), and they walked our plates of food up the small stairs to our terrace table.  Yeah - it was really wonderful!  Every morning (except our last which was Sunday), a local fisherman would come in with his small boat with his gill netted catch, and a small group of locals would gather around and pick out their fish for the day.  Magical.  A few boats would bring in small groups of tourists (4-10), bicyclists, etc. during the day; and a few of the many sail/motorboats would moor overnight.  These boats cruise the Croatian  islands for usually week trips (we thought about that..but decided for our driving tour option instead) where they put into a different port every day.   On our first full day here, we walked up the coast for around three miles or so, to Lovrecina where there is a small beach and early Christian basilica ruins.  A lovely walk with a light breeze.  We did a small driving tour the second day  and visited a few other sites, like an old stone house settlement, and the highest point in the Croatian islands, and the town of Pucisca, which sits at the back end of a long harbor and was on the list of small/quaint/romantic towns in Europe.  It was the reason I chose Brac island in the first place, and we actually liked our little town of Postira better, so it all worked out very well.  All of this trip hs been great, but this was our favorite apartment in a fantastic and peaceful setting.
