Travel day from El Chalten to El Calafate, and day in El Calafate, Argentina Patagonia
Private motor coach ride today from El Cheltan to El Calafate...two Aussies (Genevieve and Allen from Melbourne (who stayed at our hotel), Jane and Mark, two Brits from England west of London, and two locals made up the travelers in the van. We talked with all of the English speakers but mostly with Genevieve and Allen. They were on a ten week vacation, going to many of the locations that we are traveling to. They have traveled extensively, and praised their trip to southern Africa with Intrepid tours... a trip I've looked into for Donna and me. They also loved India. They typically take 8 week or longer trips. She was retired teacher (and looked like a younger Helen Mirren) and he had a large bushy mustache and light beard. A striking couple. We covered a lot of ground discussing US politics...we apologized for the pathetic and embarrassing president the US managed to elect..also talked about how US is gun crazy, etc. We were definitely on the same wave-length. El Calafate had flooding, so our hotel was changed to K..... hotel, very nice place. We walked around the town and along the waterfront on Lago Argentino. About half way between El Chalten and El Calafate we stopped for 15 minutes, at a local inn that had been around for a long time. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid stayed there back in the 1800's. Also info on other history such as Moreno, the Argentina explorer of the region, and Ferrari, famous Argentinian climber who lived much of his later life on a ranch in the area. Very relaxed and pleasant day.
Sounds like the perfect day! (Guess you have to take that trip to Africa!)
