12.5 mile RT hike, Laguna de Los Tres in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, Argentinian Patagonia

First of two long day hikes in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares (Laguna de Los Tres).  (2516 feet elevation gain, max elevation 3834 feet, moving time 6 hours and 21 minutes, total time out 8 hours, average speed 1.9 mph, max speed 3.7 mph).  Very windy all day, but fairly clear in the morning.  Cloudy skies and rain/snow moved in by mid day, and we were thwarted in our attempt to make it to the lake (got within a km, but it was just too windy on the pass - we were literally being blown off our feet, so our guide, Fecundo, said we should turn around...most people also turned around, most before the pass).  In spite of the fact that we didn't reach the lake, it was an epic day.  Really enjoyed the hike, and Fecundo is a great guide...told us many interesting facts...he's 34 and lives in Buenos Aires in the off season.  He's been a guide here for ten years.  I think he really enjoyed us as well.  He was very interested in my skiing, and he seemed very interested in coming to Colorado to ski ( I offered him a free place to stay - it would be much fun to have him come - Donna would enjoy meeting him).  He's never been out of South America  but he has been to Brazil, Columbia, Chile and Peru).   We are going to exchange emails. etc. tomorrow.

  1. Hoping Fecundo can hook us up with a free place to stay in Buenos Aires someday.
