Around town of Puerto Varas - March 27-30, 2018
Puerto Varas has been a bit more laid back part of our trip, as we've had some down time...so I've been catching up on the BLOG, Instagram, Flickr, etc. Puerto Varas is a small resort town in the Lake/Volcano district of Chile, and we are here at the end of their tourist season, so it is pretty quiet. The climate is much like the US Pacific NW, although a bit warmer, as there are a few palm trees here...but it has many of the same ornamental flowers that you see in Washington and Oregon, it is similarly wet for much of the year, and it has volcanos. Very scenic. All of our meals were good here...we ate once at our hotel (outstanding hamburgers) and after dinner stumbled on a "Bolivian gin" tasting, where they showed how to make the perfect gin and tonic with their Bolivian gin (complimentary). Actually, quite fun. This area was settled by German Lutherans back in the mid 1800's and one of the photos is of the historic yellow Lutheran church (for Donna's side of the family...long history of German Lutherans). There is also an LDS church here too (first photo), so that photo is for Ryan and Adrienne Heinz).
