River rafting on the Petrohue River, near Puerto Varas, Chile, March 28, 2018
Beautiful Day for sea kayaking. Blue skies, no wind, pleasant temps in the 50's and later 60's. I would have preferred two single kayaks, but we were in a double. This is near the end of the season here, and we are the only two people on the trip. Cheese is our guide again..."Super Mario" is our driver out to the Fjord. A wonderful day. We had such at a family farm that is located on the fjord, and has been in Juan Carlos' family for four generations. He lives there with his mother (but she was at a funeral of a neighbor when we were there). Fried eggs, fresh garden tomatoes and lettuce, papas (potatoes) from the garden, and rice...yummy. There were a couple of dogs there, the youngest was "Oso" (means bear in Spanish), who was a black lab cocker spaniel mix...very playful. A nice addition to the paddling. We were just about the only boats out on the water that we saw all day.
Afterwards, we ran into Haley and Brian, the Canadians I mentioned in the previous post. We talked a lot about sea kayaking as we drove back to town...they had lived in Vancouver area for a few years going to undergrad school, and did some sea kayaking in those years. They raved about the Broughton Archipelago across the Johnstone Strait from Vancouver Island...a place I have looked into. In September they saw many orcas, humpbacks, dolphins, etc. Their favorite campsite was Flower Island....just moved up the list for me! they also loved the Broken Island group, which is popular, but they went in September and said it was great.
