Living the Island Life, Quadra Island 8: Kayaking Heriot, Hyacinthe and Open Bays, hike to Newton Lake, Small Inlet

On a fairly windy day, I head out from Rebecca Spit and explore Heriot, Hyancinthe and Open Bays in my kayak.  Got some good practice in wind and waves, and as usual took pictures of boats and homes that I can't afford, and wildlife and scenery (priceless).  The pictures show fairly calm conditions, but that's because I can't take pictures when I'm out in the waves and wind, only when I get into a protected bay or behind an island, etc.  As always a good paddle.

The next day Donna and I head up to the north end of the island and go for a hike to Newton Lake, Small Inlet and the Octopus Islands.  This was a wonderful hike, great forests, beautiful lakes, and ending at Small Inlet (my paddle destination later in the week), and a short hike to another bay on the east side of the island with views of the Octopus Islands.
