Living the Island Life; Quadra Island 6: Cottage scenes, A&N kayak in NC Quest, Kay Dubois trail

Life in the Discovery Islands is indeed wonderful, and we are thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. It is a joy to have Anna and Nic join us, perhaps someday our other two children will be able to make it up here too.

Anna and Nic got bit by the sea kayaking bug on our kayaking day in two rented doubles and are itching to try out my new NC-17 Quest solo boat, so we head down to Rebecca Spit one afternoon, and each of them take it for a spin. As you will see from the pictures they took to it like the proverbial duck to water. It speaks a lot about their innate athletic ability and the great design of this kayak. I really love this kayak - definitely everything the web site said about the boat is true. Now I just need to up my kayaking skills to find out more first hand about its secondary stability and how it behaves with brace turns, etc.

Near Smith's Road Beach is a coastal trail called the Kay Dubois trail, which I, and then joined by Anna and Donna go for a hike (Nic was taking his second steam of the day, if I recall - boy does he love the steam shower at Fox Meadows Cottage). Pleasant and easy hiking right along the coast with many beach accesses.
