Living the Island Life; Quadra Island 10: Kayaking Chained Islands and Small Inlet; final day at Quadra
One more paddle while we are on this Discovery Island gem. I get up early and drive to the north end of the island near where we last hiked, and put in at Granite Bay. I kayak Granite Bay, through all of the chained islands almost out to Active Pass, and then back through the chained islands and into Small Inlet (one of our hiking destinations a few days ago) before heading back to Granite Bay. The wind was out of the Northwest, which made for a challenging day of paddling as the bay lies NW/SE, thus creating whitecaps for most of my time out on the water. It was a work out, but as always another great paddle.
For our final day on Quadra Island we decide to hang out at Fox Meadows for the morning, and then head out for a drive around the island checking out some areas we have not been too, and eventually ending up visiting Norm, who is the husband of one of Donna's exercise class buddies, Roseanne. Norm is building their retirement home on a couple acre property that has fantastic views across Active Passage to Vancouver Island. Roseanne is Canadian, thus their ability to live year round in Canada - we are restricted to 6 months of the year. We finish off our last evening down at Smith's Road beach.
It's been a fantastic two weeks here on Quadra Island, and we hope to make this an annual summer pilgrimage.
