Island Life in the Discovery Islands, Quadra Island 1: Beach sunsets, Rebecca Spit
Knowing we are moving on to another great destination makes leaving the boathouse a bit easier, although we absolutely loved our time at the boathouse and Salt Spring Island. We take the ferry from Vesusvius Bay to Crofton (actually two different ferrys, as Donna gets out to visit a few shops in Vesuvius Bay while I wait in the car que for the ferry, thinking we had about a half an hour, and not five minutes later they start loading the ferry - texting and calling didn't work so I took this ferry and Donna walked on the next ferry about an hour later where she of course made friends of all the walk on passengers) and drive up to Campbell River and the 10 minute ferry ride to Quadra Island.
We are staying for two weeks on Quadra Island at Fox Meadows cottage, a fairly new 950 square foot cottage on about an acre of land with an ocean view. It is owned byAnne and Don Doolittle who we will get to know a bit better by the end of our two weeks, but more on that in a future post. Donna and I have one night by ourselves here before Anna and Nic arrive for a week. It's a short walk down the hill to Smiths Road beach where we take in the first of what will be many sunsets from this location.
We bike ride the next day to Quathiaski Cove, and visit the info center, etc. and Nic and Anna arrive that evening. It has turned abnormally warm and will hit 91 in next few days for a high, (normal highs are in the 60's and 70's, low 80's). We head out to Rebecca Spit Provincial Park for a picnic on the first full day that Anna and Nic are here, and it's another beautiful day in coastal BC.
