Rest Day, Saint David’s, Wales; Pembrokshire coastal hike, April 26, 2024
Light rain today off and on, nothing serious, and it was a rest day anyway here in St. David’s, the smallest city in Britain, perhaps 2000 souls. Fabulous cathedral here where we just attended an evensong service and had a chat with the rector afterwards about many topics including of course Trump and American politics. We had a great discussion with other guests and the bnb hostess about lots of things including, you guessed it, US politics; bought some wonderful treasures, then went to the information center where there was a very nice exhibit of a local artist, toured the cathedral and bishop’s palace ruins which date to the 1100’s, attended an evensong service at the cathedral, and then had dinner at the Farmer’s Arms. Saint David’s is a city because Queen Elizabeth declared it so in the 1990’s. I suspect the reason is the historical significance of the magnificent and large cathedral here. Had it not been for the queen, it would still be just a beautiful Welsh village as opposed to the smallest city in the UK.
