First two days hiking the Pembrokshire coast, Wales. April 20-21, 2024

The toughest sections of the Pembrokshire coastal path are the northern sections with dramatic steep up and down sections, a spectacular, albeit hard rollercoaster of a hike.  We had blue sky days to start out with temps in the low 50’s (that was pretty much the temperatures for most of the trip, with very little variation in the temperature during the day, perhaps a 5 degree swing at most).  We got lost right out of the gate as we departed Cardigan but quickly realized our (my) mistake.  The first few miles were across farmers fields and through the small town of St. Dogmaels before joining the coastal path.  The first day we hiked 10 miles with an ending point at Celibwr Bay, where we called our prearranged taxi ride, which took us to our bnb in Newport.  We stayed at this bnb three nights in a row, and it was probably our nicest accomodation (although they were all good) with wonderful proprietors, Michael and Judith.  We were in a large spacious suite.         The second day we had breakfast at 8:30, which was our breakfast time for most of the trip, and a  taxi came and picked us up at 9:30, and took us back to Celibwr Bay to pick up the trail where we left off the day before.  The second day was even more spectacular than the day before, and we hiked another 9 rollercoaster miles on another blue sky day.  We finished the second day in Newport, home to our bnb.      Once we left St. Dogmael’s a couple of miles into our first day, there were no towns or facilities until Newport.  Also, we only saw perhaps two other groups of hikers each day after St. Dogmaels.   So more of a wilderness feel to the days.
