Goodwick to Aber Mayr, Wales; Pembrokshire coastal hike, April, 24, 2024

14.4 miles today.  So far in 3 days of hiking we’ve gone about 33 miles with a little over 4000 feet of elevation gain and loss.  It was a long dayl.  How long you might ask…we got back to our bnb at 9:40pm.   This was a taxi pick up day and we guessed a 6:30 pm pickup.  Called the taxi company at 3:30 as we had been advised there was no cell service where we were getting picked up.  The taxi service told us to wait at a slightly different location than what was in our guidebook,   We didn’t get there until 6:50 and my phone was dead and Donna’s was down to 5% battery and no cell phone service as advertised, also no taxi company vehicle waiting for us.  We ended up knocking on the ladies home (house photo with red door )and she had a land line but no answer at the taxi company.  She looked up another company, contacted them, and they came out (it took a half hour…he was aways away…and he took us to the local pub so we could eat right away.  After dinner we walked to the bnb (half mile away) and they were about to call out the “national guard” as the taxi service had said we were a no show (they did not go where they told us to meet, but went to the location in the guidebook, which they had told us not to go to (I think whoever I talked to at 3:30 did not relay the alternate pick up spot to the driver).  We couldn’t call anyone from the pub because our cell phones were dead.  In retrospect, I should have used a landline at the pub and called the bnb when we got to the pub, but we were beat and hungry and I just didn’t think of it.    A bit of a debacle and crazy end to an otherwise spectacular, albeit hard hiking day.
