Pembrokshire Wales Coastal Hiking Trip - London and Cardigan, April 17-19, 2024
Originally we had planned on taking a month long trip with the first two weeks in Belgium and the Netherlands, and the last 2.5 weeks hiking the west coast of Wales (the Pembrokshire coast). We debated whether we should cancel the whole trip, but since putting one foot in front of the other in general is good therapy, and since we are 70 and 71, it seemed like it was now or never to do the hike. So we decided to cancel the first half of the trip but keep the coastal hike. We’re going to hike 110 miles of the Welsh coast, a hike that National Geographic rated as the number 2 coastal hike in the world. (Spoiler alert - we can see why, it was spectacular).
We flew to London on April 17, stayed one night near Paddington Station, walked to Hyde Park (a 7 minute walk from our hotel), had Lebanese food around the corner from our hotel, and then “crashed”. The next day we took a train to Carmarthen Wales (about a 5 hour train ride), and then a taxi from there to Cardigan, where we stayed on the grounds of the Cardigan castle, parts of which date to the 1100’s. A beautiful suite room (our first stay organized by the hiking company, Celtic Trails) we walked the grounds after hours all by ourselves (we could do that since we were staying there), and then had a great dinner at the Copper Kettle in Cardigan.
A good start to the trip.
