Lower Solva to Newgale, Wales; Pembrokshire coastal hike; April 29, 2024
Well our luck with the weather finally ran out. Hypothermia day today (or darn close). Our blustery day turned out to be gale force winds (gusts as high as 50mph), and driving rain. We cut it short after 5.5 miles when we stumbled into Carter’s hardware store in Newgale. We had another 7.5 or so miles to go and it wasn’t prudent to continue. There were many times when it was difficult to stand up. Phoned a taxi company (the only one around these parts), and had them come and get us and take us on to Little Haven and our bnb. Donna was actually shaking by the time we got to the bnb…. A nice long hot shower got her back to rights. I can’t believe I even managed to get any photos (every once in a while we’d be protected by a hedgerow, but very infrequently). Gore Tex is only so good by the way. We both have Gore Tex jackets, and mine is a new Patagonia jacket, and after 3 hours in this weather, we were getting wet under the jackets. Of course it stopped raining as soon as we got to our bnb. Rain predicted for tomorrow am, may delay our start till late am if the forecast holds.
