Backing up to March, 2024 - Snowshoeing trip to Lake City

We had several winter trips planned; 10 days in January to Grand County - canceled; a week in Silverton in February - canceled, still too early; and finally a week to Lake City in early MArch.  We decided to keep that trip, Brad graciously gave up his slot for that trip and we invited my sister Denise to join Kirsten, Donna and I in Lake City, CO.  At the last minute Donna had to stay home as her mother had landed in the hospital and it really appeared she might not make it, and her Dad was in the hospital at the same time (they both made it and are now moved into an assisted living facility in Lakewood).  It was very sad Donna couldn’t join us as she loves Lake City as much as I do…one of our favorite winter Colorado locations is a 9 mile RT snowshoe into Capitol City.   The three of us went, Kirsten became the cook, and we had a wonderful time exploring the area and snowshoeing.  Kirsten had not been to Lake City for a long time (not since right after Anna got married), when our family spent Christmas there, so Colin had been there then as well, and right after that Colin, Chris Jackson and I AT skied/snowshoed/snowboarded into a remote yurt above 11,000 feet in elevation. An epic adventure  A few years after that Colin, Donna and I returned to Lake City for Thanksgiving.     Donna was returning from Lake City with her friend Cathy the day we met, way back on March 21, 1981, and we did several visits there early in our marriage including with Kirsten as an infant.  So we have a long history with the area.

Denise had never been to Lake City, and I can safely say she came away quite impressed.  We had the place to ourselves, never saw other recreators and saw very few other people in general.  We stayed in a townhouse right on Lake San Cristobal with gorgeous views.

Here are some photos from our trip.
