Valparaiso, Chile; They are Happies, not Hippies

Two nights and one full day in Valparaiso, Chile.  Valparaiso, Chile was South America's main port on the Pacific Ocean until 1914, the year the Panama Canal opened.  This is a totally haphazard, pretty dirty (lots of garbage around...and many stray dogs) city, built on a hillside like San Francisco, narrow steep streets, and innumerable murals....they are literally everywhere.  It is a fascinating yet chaotic mess of a small city.  We are staying at the Hotel Fauna, which is perched on the hillside and built vertically.  Our driver Hector told us about free walking tours, and we join an English language tour at ten AM for three hours.  Very well done...learned a lot from our guide Jorge, who is studying oceanography at one of the Valparaiso universities.

Christine, the Swiss gal we met on Easter Island was randomly eating desayuno (breakfast) at a cafe right where we were getting picked up to travel to Santiago
