Monarch Lake snowshoe Don & Donna 2-17-2018

It's a bluebird sky day on Donna's first full day up in Grand County and we head over to the Monarch Lake trail.  It's 0.8 miles to the lake on a summer road that's closed in the winter, and then a 3.9 mile loop around the lake, before heading back the 0.8 miles back to the car.  Monarch Lake is partly in the Arapaho National Recreation Area and partly in the Indian Peaks wilderness area.  The High peaks of the wilderness provide a spectacular backdrop to the lake.  On a good day (and today was a great day) this is one of the most beautiful snowshoes in the area.  It's a Saturday so we see a few people, but we are by ourselves for most all of the time.  Last year Brad and I saw two moose along the inlet to Monarch Lake, but no sign of any moose this year.  A really great day!
