Living the Island Life, Salt Spring Island 7: Kayaking Wallace Island etc., biking Scott Point
Another kayak is on the agenda, so I head off to Southey Point, which is actually the north end of Salt Spring Island, and put in at the end of Arbutus Road for a a great paddle through an island chain including the secretary islands, Jackscrew Island, and circumnavigating Wallace Island. Wallace Island is a long narrow island, most of which is a marine provincial park. It's all wonderful, and a highlight is meeting a fellow kayaker at the end of my day, who was kayaking with his dog (see photos). The dog was amazing - calmly sitting in the front cockpit of the kayak with sunglasses on! I really regret not getting the guys name - I know he was from Seattle, but that's all I found out.
Then the next day Donna and I did a really fun bike ride from Ganges to Fulford Harbor and through the high end homes on Scott point. A long list of homes that we can't afford in this area - all on the water. Oh well, we are thrilled with our boathouse accommodation, and if money ever gets really tight there is always camping in Ruckle Provincial Park.
