High Tides: Bay of Fundy, Alma NB Sept 12-14, 2019

Well, I left SLC a week ago and I've driven roughly 3000 miles so far.  Spent one day in Littleton, then drove to Sycamore, IL for a two night/one day visit with my sister Denise (who, poor thing had a gallstone attack that sent to the ER that day😫), then 560 miles to Dubois, PA, then on to Boston where I picked up Donna at the airport, overnight at a Hampton Inn on the MA/NH border, then another 475 miles up to Alma, New Brunswick, where we are staying at "An Artist's Garden", an airbnb apartment on a beautiful ten acre property, overlooking the Bay of Fundy, where the largest tides in the world occur...up to 50 feet (I think they are around 35 feet here right now).  A beautiful day for our one full day here, sunny with highs in the low 60's...we knocked around our place for a while, visiting with the owner, Karin, then went to Cape Enrage and the lighthouse there, which was beautiful and where we met Bill and Lisa from Rochelle, IL, just miles from where Denise lives.  Drove into Alma, and then did a hike in Bay of Fundy NP just outside of Alma, made a few photo stops and then walked to the "beach" at our place at low tide.  The next morning we purchased a few pieces of artwork from Karin, and headed out to the Hopewell rocks.  We thought we were going to just drive by, take thee tourist shot and head on but it turns out it's a full blown provincial park, and a bona fide tourist stop...in season it's probably a zoo, but we are definitely shoulder season and it wasn't crazy, so we took it all in  (getting our money's worth).  the tides here really are amazing. we saw the Hopewell rocks at nearer high tide but at low tide the shoreline is over 200 yards farther out.  It was a windy day and the shallow water of the bay here was churned into chocolate water with whitecaps.  This stop plus a Wal-Mart stop for some provisions turned our 6 hour drive into 9-10 hours.  Our bed and breakfast was really nice so it would have been nicer to get there before 8 pm, but we enjoyed our time at Hopewell Rocks, so all good.  We have driven across New Brunswick a few times before on our way to PEI, but never stopped...glad we did.
