Gander, NL and 9/11

We left Twillingate and drove to Gander where we chased down a 9/11 exhibit at the small aviation museum they have in Gander.  Donna had just read "The Day the World Came to Town", about 42 planes being diverted to Gander on 9/11, and how the town welcomed all the stranded passengers (about 6000 people) for several days.    Gander had a large airport with 4 runways that was built in 1938 (largest airport at the time in the world) as a refueling/layover stop for planes going between North America and Europe and then it was used heavily in WW2, finally declining in use with the introduction of jet aircraft and nonstop transatlantic stops.  It was a well done little museum.  Did a grocery stop too before heading out to the Bonavista Penisnsula.
