Second week on Salt Spring Island BC - July 2016

The weather warmed up a bit and it turned a bit more sunny.  This area had a very warm and dry late spring and early summer, then it turned cooler right abut the time we showed up (and we're not complaining..highs in the 90's back in Littleton while we are gone).  Donna's leg is slowly mending and we kayak together the last three days - Fulford Harbor along the Salt Spring Island coast out to Russell Island; Long Harbor, and Ganges Harbor.  Three great days out on the water!  Four days of double kayaking together and 5 days of Don solo kayaking; so a great paddling two weeks on Salt Spring.  No hiking this time due to Donna's leg  Our last day of kayaking together was in Ganges Harbor, and near the end we pulled out on a beautiful sandy beach on one of the three sisters islands out near the mouth of the harbor - a popular place for kayakers to get out.  There was a couple with two kids that were just getting back in when we pulled up, we chatted briefly and I took their photo as they were leaving.  That evening when we got back Harold and Sabine's daughter, husband and two children were finishing a visit at the house, and we briefly met and talked.  As I was editing the photos from the day, I came to the photo of the couple and their kids at the island, and amazingly it was Harold and Sabine's daughter, son-in-law and kids.  How fun - typical small world story!

We connected with Marion and met her adopted son from Vietnam, Guy at the Saturday market,  the day we left, which was fun  (we had met Marion earlier in the week  - she was getting out from kayaking and I was putting in - she went to CU in Boulder, owns a home in Boulder, but is from Salt Spring Island, is a Mom late in life).

We love the boathouse accommodation..a bit funky, but the location cannot be beat, great views, peaceful and quiet, very inexpensive, and we love Harold and Sabine.  Another great two weeks on Salt Spring Island!
