Fall in SW Colorado: Silverton; Crater Lake; October 2, 2015
Up and over Red Mountain Pass today - they are working on the road in a couple of sections, one of which is the section a few miles outside of Ouray, where there is a shear dropoff and no guardrail - half of the outside lane is gone right now as they work on the road. The road was only open before 8:30; between 12 and 1; and after 5 on weekdays, so we went over the pass between 12 and 1, and came back after 5. Red Mountain Pass was probably at peak colors about a week ago due to the higher elevation, but still nice. We ended up hiking on the Crater Lake trail near Molas Pass. After a few miles in, I realized I had hiked this trail with the Colin, Kirsten, Jenny and Julie Wright and Dylan Luke, maybe ten years or more ago. I noticed some places I had taken their pictures at. We probably hiked a good 8 miles RT, but didn't quite make it to the lake, since we got a late start.
