Fall in SW Colorado - East Dallas Creek Road and Blue Lake
Last year I passed through SW Colorado in early October on my way to the northern coast of California to backpack along the Lost Coast of California (a great trip - post from last year). The fall colors were spectacular last year so I made plans for Donna and I to come to SW Colorado around the same time this fall.
We stayed at a great airbnb - True Grit Rustic Mountain Retreat - and had a great week in Ridgway and the surrounding area. Our first day we drove up the East Dallas Creek Road (Ralph Lauren's ranch is in this general area) - a beautiful valley by the Mt. Sneffels Range, and then hiked to lower Blue Lake - a steep 7 mile roundtrip; 1600 feet of elevation gain hike, finishing with dinner at the Adobe Inn. A great first day.
