Salt Spring Island August 2-8, 2026
Happy Birthday Donna! - August 5, 2026
Drove to Salt Spring Island on Saturday, and it was sad to leave Quadra (especially for Donna, since she wont return until June 2027, but I’ll be back on September 1st. However, it’s always great to return to the Boathouse accomodation on Harold and Sabine’s lovely and very private 6 acre property on the south end of the island. It’s our longest standing location starting in 2014. The Boathouse is small but it sits right on top of the water, and we’ve become friends with the owners Harold and Sabine.
Low winds on Sunday so I did a 9.5 mile kayak in the Fulford harbor area and Donna headed to Ganges and a few shops including a favorite one owed by a young (in their 40’s now British/American couple. Such a kind man, and he remembers Donna from past years and came out from behind the counter to guider her a hug.

Monday August 2, 2026. Donna and I hiked in Ruckle Provincial Park, out to Yeo Point a 6 mile RT hike. Ruckle is a favorite for both of us.
Donna’s 73rd birthday and I think she had a pretty wonderful birthday. Breakfast on the deck, phone call with Kirsten, a farm stand tour on the way to Ruckle Park, 2 mile walk/hike around the campground and penisnsula, phone call with Anna, and Fulford Harbor shops and berry picking. We joined Harold and Sabine for their late afternoon time at their shore spot and then dinner on the deck (delicious leftovers of Donna’s Orzo meal from yesterday, so she didn’t have to cook.
Photos in reverse order for the day again.
Did an 11.5 mile RT kayak, around southern tip of island, past our place.
