Karrat Fjord, Greenland

Beginning with Adventure Canada's daily info:

Day 4 — Sunday August 23, 2015
Karrat Fjord
Today we will cruise one of Greenland’s most spectacular fjords. During ice breakup, narwhals and seals use the long leads created by high winds in this region to hunt the rich waters of the fjord. The cliffs and talus slopes within the fjord could give opportunities to see colonies of dovekies. Join us on deck to soak up the atmosphere and scenery, not to mention unbeatable photographic opportunities.

Inuktitut word of the day:
Pulaakainnarniaqtagit! — I’m coming to visit you for a while!

"And yet, there is only one great thing, the only thing, to see in huts and on journeys: the great day that dawns, and the light that fills the world."
—Inuit poem recorded by Knud Rasmussen

A gorgeous day to see Karrat Fjord, which has some enormous icebergs.  Adventure Canada offers a longer hike option for the day, but I passed as I am still in the worst days of my nasty cold - the area I did get to explore was wonderful.  We are now in polar bear country, so the guns come out and a perimeter is established by armed staff, and we are instructed in strict terms to not wander outside of the perimeter.  It's a bit over the top, but that is not to take the threat from polar bears lightly - they are huge and powerful predators that can easily outrun a person, and have been known to stalk people.
We spot a few spouting whales, humpbacks and fin whales  - I manage to capture a few images of fin whales spouting.

I am in awe of the bergs - it is a magical experience - too bad I'm a "stick figure level of artist" - it brings out the inner artist in you I feel.

A willow "tree"; all of a few inches high - it is a true tree however.
