Comox, BC June 2023

We started our summer trip in Vancouver Island with ten days in Comox.  The Comox valley, a retirement area these days for Canadians, has three main towns, Comox (by the sea), Courtenay (the largest..including a Costco), and Cumberland.  We like Comox the best of the three, and are staying in a new place, as our previous accomodation was sold, torn down, and a new home built.  We are right on the ocean (as we are in all four locations on this trip), in a beautiful carriage house that was only built about 6 years ago…we are just to the east (?) of the Comox marina.  We can launch our kayaks right from our place, easily at high tide, a long walk at low tide.  There are great walks here at the Marina, Filbert PArk, MacDonald woods, Mac Laing park, goose spit, and Royston sea walk.  Nice hiking at Seal Bay Nature Reserve too.  We walked every day here a lot, and kayaked some too.  We watched the Denver Nuggets win their first NBA championship with the Deutsch’s, who are up on Vancouver Island area too for 2.5 weeks.  That proved to be fateful however, as Janet Deutsch had a bad cough..thought it was her asthma…it wasn’t and both Donna and I got her viral cold.  Donna really got it bad, (went to a Comox walk in clinic, a so-so experience; Janet’s clinic experience on Quadra Island was much better) and is still suffering the effects 2 weeks later as I write this.  Considering our illness, we made the best of it, and still enjoyed Comox.
