Floating Labyrinth Canyon of the Green River in Utah
Good friend Jeff Norby from MN joined me on a 4 day, three night float of Labyrinth canyon of the Green River, a 47 mile stretch of river from Ruby Ranch (maybe 10 miles outside of Green River Utah) to Mineral Point, roughly the start of Canyonlands NP on the Green River. Brad and I did the second canyon, Stillwater Canyon (52 miles) , 8 years ago at this same time of year. Tex’s Riverwaysw again provided the car/boat shuttle. Great weather for the trip with sunny skies and lows near 40 and highs in the 60’s and 70’s. Low wind made paddling super easy, and we easily covered a dozen miles each day with little effort. We did a few great day hikes, and camped on wonderful sandbars every night. We never had anyone else camped by us, and saw very few other boats, so we were by ourselves 99 percent of the time. Extremely peaceful and relaxing. Interestingly, we met Chip in the parking lot of our motel the night before. Brad and I met Chip 8 years ago on our Stillwater trip…he used to bring a high school group here every year for a two week outdooe adventure. He’s now retired, but was doin the trip with friends. It’s his 29th year down this stretch of river. After the river trip we met up with George and Brad for a couple of days of day hiking in the San Rafael Swell…the next post.
