Fraser Experimental Forest February 2020

Some more snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the Fraser Experimental Forest on snowy days up in Grand County.  The first trail is the Flume-Creekside loop, with the trailhead only about 3 or 4 miles from the condo.  It was a President’s Day weekend and we actually saw a few folks (as opposed to usually not seeing anyone or only seeing 1 or two groups), but not exactly crowded.  We just missed seeing a Female moose and twins by seconds.  Two other people reported seeing them, and yet seconds later when we came around the corner they had hightailed into the woods.  Second time this winter we just missed seeing moose.  Lots of moose tracks though, as is typical of many of the trails.  The second trip was an amazing day but hard day breaking trail in my cross country skis on the Leland Creek - Fool Creek Roads loop of 5.5 miles after almost a foot of new snow overnight.  We were the first ones on the trail, and we didn’t even get going until 10 AM.  It was hard work but I earned my ice cream dessert that night.
