So long, Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright, is considered to be the greatest American architect. He considered himself to be the greatest architect of all time - modesty was not a long suit for Mr. Wright. His mother desired that he become a great architect, and darned if he didn't do just that. He also fathered seven children, had three wives, was rather infatuated with himself, his second wife and six others were murdered and his grand home in Spring Green, WI burned, he carried on scandalous affairs, all the while designing innovative homes and other buildings. Clearly larger than life, was Mr. Wright. We did a tour of his Oak Park home, and 20 structures in the immediate vicinity (one church, 19 homes; the greatest concentration of Wright's surviving architectural design) near the end of our midwest "theory of relativity" tour in October - a grand time to be back in the midwest.

Donna and I have roots in Oak Park too, as Donna's great grandfather and his son were pastors of Christ Lutheran Church in Oak Park for (60+??) years - thus her grandfather grew up in Oak Park. My grandmother grew up only blocks away from Donna's grandfather and was baptized by one of Donna's relatives. It is a small world in which we live.

We also stayed in downtown Chicago one night on LaSalle Street, (courtesy of Ben Gutman) and had a day in the city with Sally Gutman.

So here are some pics from that time in Chicago - it's been a midwest kind of year with three trips back to the midwest mothership since May.
