Surprise! - Donna turns 60.
We've been gone a month and we head back to Salt Lake City, and Anna and Nic's new home. Our good friend Sue Wright's daughter, Julie Wright is staying with Anna and Nic for a month while she takes a phlebotomy class. No blood draws for us though. Nic is working away on his new deck, and since there are already four workers, I don't get in the way (I can be dangerous with power tools anyway). We really like their house, very open, and nice quiet neighborhood.
Two nights and one day here - but tonight (July 31st) is Donna's surprise 60th birthday party. I came up with the idea of having a small surprise party for Donna in SLC, as all of Anna and Nic's friends and family love Donna, and she would never suspect since her birthday actually isn't until August 5th. Anna outdoes herself, by not only organizing the party, but making a great slideshow of Donna's life, and a fantastic memory quilt. Sobs all around for Donna (me too) - very beautiful and touching - too bad Kirsten and Colin couldn't be here but it's a weekday, and they are both working back in Denver. The surprise came off wonderfully, and it was a great note to end our month long trip on.
Then on Donna's actual birthday, August 5th we continue the celebration - we get take out Vietnamese food from Saigon Bowl (Yum), and head over to Kirsten's house for a backyard dinner, followed by Donna's folks joining us for Spring Fling cake, courtesy of friend Janet Deutsch. Dining with Donna is the theme tonight, and Kirsten designed a logo for Donna's recipe book that she will someday put together for the kids. Now Donna is working her way through the huge pile of gifts and cards that friends and relatives have sent.
Donna is a very special lady to so many people, and I am one lucky guy to be married to such a wonderful and beautiful woman.

Happy birthday Donna! What a fun surprise. :)
ReplyDeleteYour trip to British Columbia really looks spectacular. We have considered visiting Vancouver Island, but after seeing your photos, it's now been moved to my must do list. I gave Amy a heads up about your trip, because I think she'll enjoy it too.
I enjoyed the encounters you shared with people you met in the B&B's. I'm not as outgoing as you are, and it makes me appreciate how much you can learn from the owners and guests.
Travel on Don and Donna!
