Quadra Island July 12-18, 2026
A lazy day. Drove to Gowland Harbor, and stopped at the Jade resort and took some photos. Gowland Harbor is a nice secluded spot on the west side of the island, with views of Gowland Island rather than Campbell River. A very picturesque harbor. Relaxing around our place looking at distant whales through the binoculars, and homemade pizza for dinner.
Very low tide morning and did some tide pooling down in front of the house, an eagle posed in a tree, and then Anna, Nic and I went to Granite Bay and kayaked into small inlet, and then hiked the half mile to Wiatt Bay. Another great day in paradise.
July 15
A young buck deer on the beach at low tide, some more tide pooling, a really nice picnic at the spit all afternoon, and a fantastic sunset and group photos, finishing with our evening game of Skull King.
July 15
Final playing day for Donna and Aria, baked chocolate chip cookies too - Aria reported it was a great day! Anna, Nic and I went for a final paddle out to see the seals, Breton Island and on the way back we saw a humpback from our kayaks…Anna got some distant footage…perhaps a photo or two when I finally share Anna’s photos from their two weeks here.
July16
Well, all good things come to an end and today Anna, Nic and Aria departed Quadra, heading to Snoqualmie, WA today, so two ferry rides, a border crossing, and Seattle traffic today for them.. Laundy and cleaning for us, although we both got long walks in before the rain came in this evening around 6 pm. Highlight was a mama raccoon with three young raccoons in a a tree on the Kay Dubois trail.
Things have really slowed down since Anna, Nic and Aria left. We did have a solid evening, night time and morning rain right after they left. After the rain we did local walks, Donna made it out to JAmes Pottery, and we relaxed some. Blackberry picking season is starting a little early this year and managed to pick a first batch of blackberries, too.
