Solo trip to San Rafael Swell, December 2024

5 day hiking trip.  First day was at mile 2 off of Interstate 70 in McGinnis conservation Area, the Trail through Time.  Interpretive trail where dinosaur fossils have been excavated.  Well done.  4.5 miles. Day 2, 10 miles RT, up Crack Canyon on Waterfall trail (as opposed to my usual down Crack Canyon).  Day 3, 6.5 miles RT up Uneva Creek.  Much shorter but much steeper.  Day 4, 10 miles RT on another section of Waterfall trail.  Half way through you come to a narrow slot portion of Chute canyon.  Thought the trail was a loop, it wasn’t, had to bushwhack out last mile back to road and eventually the car.  A bit dicey but made it out, added an extra degree of difficulty.  Day 5, 7.5 miles RT, Dragonfly gulch.  Upper 20’s low 30’s starting out hiking, low 40’s at the end.  Sunny skies.  Saw no other cars, no other people.

  2. Great shots of the rocky landscape, looks like some nice hikes and scenery. I was hoping for a picture of the Motel 8 accommodations, bummer! :) -Kiki
