Bloods Lake hike with Aria and a flood
Back to SLC for Aria's second birthday celebration. We arrived on Monday, June 19th after a whirlwind week of cleaning out the entire first floor of our house so that we could have the main floor hardwood floors redone and the kitchen, family room, entry way and hallway and living room walls, trim, built ins and ceilings painted. When we left everything was either in the basement or garage including (fatefuly) our refrigerator which was sitting empty on the back deck. The ice maker/water line to the refrigerator did not have a shut off valve, and in my haste to move the last large items out with the help of our neighbor and our niece's husband, I couldn't find where the shut off was, so foolishly (as it turned out) we simply bent the line in two places and duct taped it closed. No water was leaking when we left, and it held for two days as it turned out, but on Tuesday afternoon sometime the line came undone and started spurting water all over the 2/3rds done kitchen floor. Kirsten came home from work luckily (she was staying at friends) and discovered the disaster. She couldn't get a hold of us as we were hiking (see photos below) with Anna and Aria..she got a hold of Colin and he talked her through shutting off all the water to the house. End of the story is the kitchen floor was ruined and will have to be replaced...luckily water did not travel into the adjacent family room or dining room. There was some water damage in the basement below the kitchen however. I drove back on Wednesday, worked for 8 hours Wed night and Thursday morning cleaning up, and drove back on Thursday (Aria's birthday) arriving back in SLC at the same time everyone was coming back from Aria's birthday celebration at Red Butte Gardens and the Red Iguana restaurant. We had a nice hike before the day went to pot on Tuesday..here are photos from that.
