Lakes Catherine, Martha and Mary - Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah
A last minute trip to Salt Lake City to visit Nic and Anna over Labor Day weekend. Visits with Ryan and Adrienne, Beverly and Kerry, dinner out at Red Iguana (Mexican) and Oh Mai (Vietnamese), and this hike round out our weekend in Salt Lake City.
A four mile round trip hike, with about 1100 feet of elevation gain, to Lake Catherine, with Lake Mary and Martha Lake on the way up to Catherine makes for a very pleasant day hike. The trail starts at Brighton ski area at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon, and ends at Lake Catherine, just below the divide between Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood canyons. Great wildflowers in peak season on this hike - but that season is over, but nice scenery nonetheless.
After getting back home, a hike up Roaslie Trail in the Mt. Evans Wilderness just about wraps up hiking season before taking off for MN/IL for a few weeks.
