Chief Mountain

We have had snow in the city for a long time this winter, which is unusual to have such a long time of continuous snow on the ground, but the mountain snowpack has been very poor especially early on.  The front range got a big snow while we were in Florida, including several feet in the foothills, so Donna and I decided to go snowshoeing nearby.  We chose an area just west of Evergreen, across from Echo Mtn terrain park ski area.  There is good snow here, and great views from this high elevation trail.  We start around 10,600 and finish at 11,400 feet.  Great views of the surrounding peaks from here.  Hard to believe that I have lived here since 1980, and never snowshoed or cross-country skied here.  Only a few cars at the trailhead on a Friday - met a nice young couple at the top that we find out know a family friend - typical small world.  Here are a few pictures from that little jaunt.
