Father’s Day, and I “celebrated” by doing a 14.5 mile paddle - 7.5 hours; and yes, I was sore afterwards. But early that morning, lots of whale activity our front (no photos though, since that’s right my ultra zoom camera died - Brad jinxed it since the day before he had asked if I was taking photos with anything other than my iPhone). Mid tide day so no starfish photos etc. and no long lens, thus emphasis was on scenery shots. Made it all the way out to the King Islets, across to the Bold Island crescent and back. Even though it was a very light wind day, the wind kicked up when I was coming back and I had small whitecaps I was paddling against - thus, very sore shoulders - no pain, no gain.

Warmer day and calm, but I was still a bit sore from my 14.5 mile RT paddle yesterday, so we rode our bikes over to Rebecca Spit and did a walk. Ran into Don and Anne Doolittle (we stayed at their airbnb for a couple of years, just up the hill from where we are now - great place but we love being on the water), and also ran into the French couple (Phillip and Did) , that I’ve met and talked to a couple times already. Whale cruised by early this morning as well.

Low wind paddling day. Good sunrise this morning, an 11 mile 5 hour sea kayak out to Hyacinthe Bay, Open Bay with a great break spot on the sandy beach at the back end of Open Bay, saw a weasel (got a photo), an otter on the shore (no photo), a mother common merganser and her brood (photos), seals at seal rock, and great scenery as always. A great Donna prepared dinner, and a whale cruised by out in the middle after dinner (no photo). You’ll notice that the photos are in reverse order…not sure how to change that on the Blogger site, so the sunrise photos are at end rather than the beginning.
Common Merganser and her brood
The goats were still in the same spot
At the sandy beach at the back end of Open Bay; great spot to take a break
A weasel along the shore in Hyacinthe Bay. It’s the third one I’ve seen this year and Donna saw one on our local walk the other night as well, Finally got a photo - albeit a lousy photo, but better than nothing. Also saw an otter on the shore but he slipped back in the water before I could get a photo.
Sea lions cruising by in the early morning.
Last warm day for a while. Got some good sunrise photos this morning. Donna and I hiked Shellaligan trail. We heard one whale while we were on the coastal part of the trail.
Rain coming in this afternoon, and then raining all day on Friday, so got in a 5 mile walk on our local loop. Ran into Anne Doolittle right off the bat (the owner of our first bnb for a couple of years just up the hill from where we are now) and had a long chat, talked with a lady who lives near the south side winery for a while and then coming back on the Kay Dubois trail came on the innard remains of a deer?? Lying right in the middle of the trail. There are wolves and mountain lions (they call them cougars here) on the island.
Beautiful predawn glow from our house
Nice driftwood art at an entrance to a home
Death on the trail!!!
A rainy day. Brad’s arraigned and he hung out at our place for several hours and then came back for a Donna made dinner, a delicious soup that Donna had never made before - we all loved it.
A calm morning and early afternoon so I went out for a 11 mile kayak trip. Lower tide, so the usual starfish etc. photos. I also saw a helicopter land and later take off from the big bucks property at the end of Valdes road. I also saw an ultra light take off from the sand beach at the back end of Open Bay, and lots of seals at seal rock.
