A mostly hang out day with local walks. Got photos of a bald eagle on “Eagle Rock”, triple Great Blue Herons on “Eagle Rock”, did our local 4.5 mile local walk, saw the blue super yacht departing (it was anchored in Drew Harbor yesterday), rode the bike to the Haskin farm trail and walked the Fir Crest loop (another 3 miles) while visiting with Denise and getting the update on life in Sycamore, and then we went to Norm and Roseanne’s spectacular home on the Copper Bluffs on the east side of Quadra for a fantastic dinner.
A long paddle day for me, a hang out day for Donna. I launched in Granite Bay at the north end of the island, and paddled through the Chain Islands out to Discovery passage and then back through the islands and across and back into the Small Inlet before returning to Granite Bay. A low wind day, and almost no other boats.
Hung out today and did local walks/hikes. Kay Dubois/Fox road/Quadra loop in the morning; Hawkins Farm/Fir Crest loop/Todd’s trail in the afternoon. A good day to hang out…close in Humpbacks in the morning (before the walk) and an Orca came by around 12:30.
Delicious smoothie made with thimbleberries picked in and near “our yard”
We did a 3 mile RT hike with Brad up to Eagle Ridge, which looks down on Discovery Passage. Really nice view point. We could also see Norm and Roaseanne’s neighbor’s house. At least part of hike is Norm’s everyday hike with his dog, Huey. A new NY Times burrito recipe for dinner tonight and Island Farm ice cream (it went on sale) for dessert.
A 9.5 mile paddle along Herriot island, seal rock, and the Bretons. Good tidepooling from the kayak, bird life and great scenery as always. Donna hung out, had a long phone call with her close friend Maria, talked with Kirsten back home and relaxed at our place. And first blackberries of the season - delicious on Donna’s power up pancakes this morning.
Donna and I hiked the Shellaligan trail today. We met Stuart and Jaycee, a nice couple from Vancouver who have also been coming to Quadra for a number of years.
Saturday is market day here on Quadra, so Donna went to the market. I rode the bike to the market, walked around for a bit, and then rode down to the ferry where I got on, went to Campbell River, rode to Great Clips, got my haircut, then rode back to the ferry, took the ferry back to Quadra, and rode back to our place. I really felt like a local. Donna did her workout and I did a 4.25 mile local walk while talking with Denise.
There's something about the vast ocean against the sunset over the mountains that looks like paradise. Your week was filled with stunning adventures. The kayaking, hiking with Brad, whale watching and picking berries for smoothies is just perfection! I think these photos are beautiful. I love the ones you captured of the humpbacks and orca! The soft blue and pink colors in the evening are magical!
